When using CNCs, there are several new skills and techniques to learn. For example, holding and aligning a board for precision cutting may sound simple but it’s an ongoing challenge for woodworkers using a CNC. These may sound like subtle problems, but they’re not because the operator has have many solutions and adapt them to the problem at hand.
Holding the piece being milled to the CNCs bed turns out to be particularly challenging. The work piece simply cannot move when being milled. With the mass of the gantry moving with its powerful spindle or router it tends to want to knock the board a little bit or a lot. Moving in even the least amount of a few thousands of a inch can cause major problems.
