The June 2021 issue of Popular Woodworking magazine features my article on the Maker Workstation. This is a basic PDF format drawing of the Workstation Vise Module that is a component of the workstation. It’s a MWS side plate with a bottom-mounted Yost 9″ woodworking vise. Other 9″ single screw, twin-rail front vises that basically are a frame without vise chops will work, but free-standing metal vises are too big to mount on the side plates. Refer to the vise installation instructions for the size and location of through holes. To make the module you’ll need a blank 16″ x 3.5″ side plate and 3/4″ 13-ply Baltic Birch plywood for the vise chop. I suggest making two chops and laminating them together. It’s easy to build the vise chop add-on module using standard woodworking tools.
There are extended online Popular Woodworking articles that take you through the process of constructing the Modern Base. Read my posts at popularwoodworking.com
